I spent Tuesday and Wednesday nights engaged in musical pursuits — starting with an unexpected evening of karaoke after my scheduled pub trivia night was unexpectedly canceled. Here are the three songs I performed for the crowd of mostly strangers:
Then, on Wednesday night, it was off to the Birchmere to catch Zappa Plays Zappa, with Frank’s son Dweezil and his band doing justice to the deep and complex variety of his father’s vast musical catalog. I’ve seen the show four times now, in St. Louis, Boise, Baltimore, and Alexandria, and it’s gotten better each time — always adding new and more complex pieces to the repertoire, never letting all this old music get stale. They also played for three hours straight, except for a three-minute break before the encore. Amazing show. A favorite tune from that night:
I used to love eating at the Birchmere, but their menu is pretty tricky going for a strict paleo diet, so I opted for a late, quick dinner at home later.

I woke up at 10:15 a.m. (after heading to bed at 2:45 a.m.).
Breakfast: 11:25 a.m. | 2 eggs, sauerkraut, 1 Tbsp. red palm oil
Lunch: 5:30 p.m. | 5.3 oz. albacore tuna, 1 avocado, 2.5 stalks celery, 5,000 IU Vitamin D capsule, Calcium/Magnesium/Zinc caplet
Dinner: 11:55 p.m. | 4 eggs, 2 chicken livers, greens mix, 2 Tbsp. red palm oil, herbs & spices
Thursday, March 6

Lunch: 5:00 p.m. | 6.7 oz. herring, 1 avocado, 2 carrots, 5,000 IU Vitamin D capsule, Calcium/Magnesium/Zinc caplet
I’ve felt like skipping a meal a few times during the program, but this is one of only a couple of times that I’ve actually done that. Not particularly hungry tonight, so no dinner for me.
